After several years of requests for an up-to-date, comprehensive, publicly accessible map of stairways in Cincinnati, we finally have it available for your daily walks and future advocacy.

The inventory comes from the 2022 Cincinnati Hillside Stairway Inspection Summary (CHISIS) – produced by the City of Cincinnati Department of Transportation and Engineering – the first inspection performed in a decade thanks to American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds and expanded capital budget funding for stairway improvements. The inspection summary informs prioritization of repairs to public stairways, of which there were many in 2023. As a result of using CHISIS directly, this serves as the first comprehensive inventory of Cincinnati’s stairways inventory available to the public. 384 total stairways are included.
