Spring in Our Steps

Enhancing community connections in Cincinnati, by reclaiming alleys, sidewalks, and steps for the pedestrian.

St. Joe Street

St. Joe Street is a side street that branches off Vine Street, in the Mount Auburn neighborhood of Cincinnati. While a one-block section is navigable by auto, between Vine and Loth Streets, a 10-foot right-of way extends southeast of Loth Street into a looming retaining wall. Maps show St. Joe Street bisecting the block to Rice Street, but the wall interrupts that corridor, forcing users to use the North Wendell Alley Steps, before continuing onward to Rice Street.

Currently, the aforementioned walkway is closed, as it has been for nearly 30 years. However, Spring in Our Steps aspires to reactivate that connection through a series of cleanups, coordination with city departments, and joint beautification efforts with area non-profits.

  • Progress beyond St. Joe Street, reaching up to the North Wendell Alley Steps and South Wendell Alley, is coming soon.
